Camping and Fishing on Lake Buchanan

As a Hill Country body of water, Lake Buchanan is a hub for outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, swimming, and more. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website, you can catch large-mouth bass, white bass, striped bass, catfish, sunfish, and crappie. There are various locations along Lake Buchanan where fish populations are usually at their peak. You can see a map below, as well as a diagram of fish opportunities, both from the TPWD website.


As for camping opportunities, Lake Buchanan features a wide range of options. Beachcomber Park, Poppy's Point, and Black Rock Park all offer varied ranges of camping from RV hookups to primitive camping. You'll want to book early because spots around Austin during the spring and summer months tend to fill up pretty quickly.

As for weather in the Lake Buchanan area - it's very similar to what you will get in the Austin metro area. Very hot in the summer time, a little bit cooler in the fall and winter months. Notably, when frosts or freezes are predicted overnight, they'll typically hit Lake Buchanan a lot harder than you'll see in the Austin metro area.
